Norm Eisen of Toledo, has proposed to open a trading center in the former Value City Furniture Store at the Great Eastern Shopping Center. The Center will be named Stormin Normin, which will allow vendors to sell their goods.
Concerned were raised by the Plan Commission:
“We already had a request like that, and it was turned down,” said Bacon. “We don’t want anything tacky or fly by night, with someone setting up card tables to sell their wares. But this is supposed to be a higher caliber shop.”
The Plan Commission has given approval, but with conditions, according to Kimberly Grames, the city’s planning, zoning and economic development coordinator.
“The Plan Commission approved a conditional use permit for one year,” said Grames. Among the conditions: Eisen will have to report to the Plan Commission quarterly “to let them know how things are going,” said Grames.
Eisen also plans to provide entertainment at the former Value City Department Store in the Great Eastern Shopping Center, said Grames.
The city’s architectural review committee has yet to review Eisen’s signage, as well as his plans to have other venues outside the building.
“He wants to have garage sale type things outside, and have music events and Put-Put,” said Grames. “The committee has to review that before he can actually put up any signs or do anything outside. I believe he’s starting to move into the building now.”
New Business: Northwest Ohio Beverage
Northwest Ohio Beverage with 30 employees has moved into Northwood, said Grames. They have moved into the former Treu House of Munch facility on Wales Road, said Grames. Signs are up and coolers in place for this business.
